Macanudo Prince Phillip

I was rearranging the boxes in my humidor, when I ran across the Macanudo Prince Phillip hiding out in a Punch box. I have not smoked a Macanudo in many months due to their lack of taste. The Cafe Series is extremely bland to the palate. It is the equivalent of smoking cardboard. Nonetheless, I had to fire up this long ass cigar. It was a rainy cold day in Chicago and this size cigar was perfect for sitting on my spider infested porch and watching the day pass. I am hoping that the Prince Phillip will help pass the day.

The Macanudo Prince Phillip measures 7.5 x 49 and is constructed with Mexican and Dominican fillers. It is finished with a Connecticut wrapper. I must admit they are well constructed with and even burn and an easy draw. However, the taste disappointed. It had a papery to mild cedar taste that in the end was like smoking rolled up cardboard. I must say, I did finish it to the end. The Macanudo Prince Phillip comes in a box of 10 that costs about $45.

I have no idea what happened to Macanudo. In the early '90's, they were my go to smoke. However, something changed and they have failed to live up to my past expectations. I still hold out hope for the Hyde Park, which continues to please, but most of that is nostalgia more than anything else.

As they say, hope is not a strategy. The Macanudo Prince Phillip failed to please. For further reviews of the Macanudo visit the Stogie Guys which reviewed the Hampton Court.
